Shooting Fast in Disneyland

A beautiful Springtime sunset at Paradise Pier, Disney’s California Adventure

As you probably already know if you have followed page for any amount of time, I often travel to Disney and of course bring one of my cameras with me. I was recently back in Southern California for work, and couldn’t miss an opportunity to return to Star Wars land. I brought my Canon EOS R and it’s kit lens, the RF 24-105mm F4. For quick, on the go shooting, this is really a fantastic setup. As much as I enjoy working with fancy cameras and lenses, I also enjoy the effortless shooting this setup gives me. If I’m moving fast, and in Disneyland that is generally the case (don’t want to make my poor friends wait around all day while I setup the perfect shot), I still shoot in manual mode but I do leave the white balance on auto. The AWB for the EOS R is fantastic, and I rarely have an issue with it. I also shoot in RAW, so even if it is a bit off its generally pretty easy to fix. For this kit, I generally leave my lens around F4.0, especially at night, and fine tune with my shutter between 120-250 and ISO as low as I can get it. For picture profile, I generally leave it on neutral. This provides me a great base image, I can then mess with in Capture One to my heart’s content.
